Tinsel and Wish, two of Santa’s elves, bet to see who could make a toy faster. They bet $1 on each toy made. Tinsel won 3 bets and Lisa won $5 overall. How many toys did they make?
Answer:
Eleven. Because Wish lost 3 bets to Tinsel, Wish lost $3 ($1 per toy). So, Wish had to win back $3 with 3 more toys, then win another five bets to win $5.
